Gilt dry lacquer figure of the Buddha seated in earth-touching mudra on a tiered plinth, two of which are edged with wave shapes. Between the hair and forehead is a fillet, the head topped with a lotus bud-shaped finial. Large feet and hands.

Dry lacquer Buddha. Stylistically it dates from the end of the 18th or early 19th century. That is a typical date for objects with the wavy robes, the fillet between the hair and forehead, the lotus bud-shaped finial. The big feet and hands suggest that it might have been made for sale in the Shan States - a lot of lacquer images were made in central Burma for sale in the Shan regions.
