Gown or shift of cream cotton, decorated in the lower half at the front with vertical rows of embroidery using metal thread and some openwork. On the reverse the rows are shorter along the lower edge only. The collarless front neck opening is decorated with metal thread embroidery. The ends of the sleeves are also decorated with metal thread embroidery, which continues for a short way along the top of the sleeve. The garment is made up of rectangular sections of cloth stitched together shaped only by gathers below each armpit to make a T shaped shift. Length 1422mm (56").
