dance clothing; crown (costume component)

Crown, swir, with a triangular piece of cotton at the back, supported in the centre by a wooden splint. The rest of the crown is constructed with cane, painted red and held together with copper wire, to create a frame. Onto this are numerous pieces of shell, cut into spikes and supported on springs. Two cane circles are also attached at each side, also mounted with shell and with the addition of a circle of gold hide and a pink pom pom on the front. The front of the crown is decorated with gold-painted hide with a cut out design. Part of a costume for a Baris dancer.
