Digital piano model FP-8. Laminated wood case. 89 keys, of which the top A and C-sharp are missing. Two volume slider controls and eleven sound modification buttons, of which one is missing. A speaker grille runs along the full length of the back of the instrument. Includes collapsible stand. This digital piano was used by students of the BRIT School of Performance Arts and Technology, Croydon, in the 1990s. The school is a state school, independent of any Local Education Authority and all places are free. It is a vocational environment for students with an aptitude for the performing arts. The digital piano is an electronic musical instrument designed to serve primarily as an alternative to a traditional piano. While digital pianos may fall short of the genuine article in feel and sound, they nevertheless have many advantages, including cost, portability and computer connectivity. Launched in 1991, the Roland FP8 was hailed for its accurate grand piano sound and the natural responsiveness of its weighted keys.
