Clarinet in B-flat. Dalbergia melanoxylon (African blackwood, grenadilla). Nickel silver-plated ferrules and keys. Ring keys bushed with ebonite. Boehm-Gomez system fingering with low E-flat key and five trill/palm keys. Four joints: mouthpiece, barrel, body joint and bell. Mouthpiece tenon string lapped, body joint tenons lapped with cork and string with nickel silver-plated rings at far ends. Barrel is stamped: BOOSEY & Co./17543; Body joint is stamped: TRADEMARK/BOOSEY/BOOSEY & Co./MAKERS/LONDON/17543; with historic trumpet and banner emblem. Bell is stamped: BOOSEY & Co./LONDON/17543

This clarinet was made for Manuel Gomez, clarinettist at Covent Garden and the London Symphony Orchestra and professor at the Guildhall School of Music. The extra keys on the clarinet enabled Gomez to play B flat and A clarinet parts with one instrument. Boosey & Co. marketed a production model of this instrument.
