The award recognises Nick’s services to the arts and heritage.
With a career spanning more than 30 years, Nick has worked in institutions including the Museum of London, University College London and Manchester Museum. He currently chairs Arts Council England’s Designation Scheme Panel, the National Trust’s Collections and Interpretation Advisory Group, and Research England’s review of funding for Higher Education Museums and Galleries. He is also chair of the National Museum Directors’ Council’s environment and ecology subgroup.
He has been Chief Executive of the Horniman since 1 May 2018. The Horniman was awarded Art Fund Museum of the Year in 2022.
I’m delighted to be awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list. It’s a wonderful recognition of the great work of everyone at the Horniman in recent years.
In February 2024, Nick will leave the Horniman to take up his new role as Chief Executive of English Heritage. The Horniman is in the process of recruiting his successor.
