Man's court or audience robe, chaofu, in black or very dark blue silk with horse hoof cuffs and a pleated front panel below the waist. The right overlaps to the left side and is fastened with five pairs of metal knot loop buttons. Lined with pale blue patterned satin. Turned back cuffs lined with plain pale blue satin. Elaborately embroidered upper body, lower section below pleats, cuffs and a rectangular flap sewn below the waist at right. Five clawed dragon chasing flaming pearl among clouds with ruyi head shape on chest in gold thread couchwork, further gold couchwork dragons in roundels below pleats of skirt. Other motifs include red bats, representing abundance of happiness, and Buddhist emblems: vase, parasol, knots, wheel of law, pearls, scroll, lozenges, fish, and conch shell.
