painting (art)

One of a pair of paper sketches with a poem in painted characters. This is the second of the pair, so goes on the left. The inscription “節義為士雄, jié yì wèi shì xióng” literally means 'a person who is honest and royalty can be seen as a hero or a celebrity with no official post'. This sentence is derived from a poem entitled “擬古詩九首, nǐ gǔ shī jiǔ shǒu” written by Yuanming, Tao. The painting is signed, and has a seal. The painter's name is to the left of the third character, Takatoshi or Takamitsu 孝満.
