A very small toy basket with a narrow body.
This basket is made from skein, a very fine split willow. There is a tradition of making baskets like this in northern France and in Bavaria. In Thierache in France there were factories making similar baskets in the 1880s. In Bavaria Litchtenfels basketry school still exists and there is also a basket museum at Michelau.
These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database.
