A long tablet-woven braid, 'sa-si-gyo' (ribbon). It is made from brown and natural coloured cotton. Some areas have faded. It consists entirely of script. There are no motifs or symbols. One end finishes with 34 cream and brown bands and unfinished ends. The other end finishes with a shorter pattern, which is a slight diagonal pattern. The end then narrows, the braid is whipped at this point, and some of the warp is cut off. The remainder is twisted and secured with a knot at the end. It would have been woven on a card loom. It is used for binding together the wooden lacquered boards which protect religious manuscripts. [Textile]
