According to Edward Hart, writing on 4 May 1927, 'Far left (no 1): adult male, June 18th 1896, Casting frill. Summer plumage; (no 2): adult male, October 1st 1895, autumn plumage; (no 3): adult male, January 4th 1907,winter plumage; (no 4): adult female, September 1871; (no 5): immature female, September 1st 1893; (no 6): adult male, June 18th 1896, casting frill, summer plumage; (no 7) juvenile male, February 18th 1896; (no 8) adult male, November 11th 1895, winter plumage; (no 9) adult male. June 18th 1896, casting frill, summer plumage. Sexes differ in summer plumage, alike in winter plumage. Summer and winter plumage differ. Mounted by me'.
