Taxidermy case of adult hybrid between Mallard and Pintail by Edward Hart.
Taxidermy case of adult hybrid between Mallard and Pintail. According to Edward Hart, writing on 29 April 1927, '(No 1): Hybrid between Mallard and Pintail, March 29th 1869, Shot by me in Christchurch Harbour. The marking and colouring of this Hybrid is very interesting. The white ring which the WIld Duck possesses is shown, but carried up the back of the neck as in the Pintail Drake. On the wing the Mallard Drake has two alar bars, this bird possesses but one, and the two middle tail feathers are drawn out curving slightly upwards instead of being tightly curled like the Wild Duck. Mounted by me'.
