Harmonium by Debain, Paris, 1840-50. Serial number 973. Front Ormolu Plaque: 'Debain a Paris.' Base is stamped: 'Debain, Place Lafayette, Paris 973.' Five regular stops controlled by levers, surmounted by spherical ivory buttons, marked: 'Crescendo,' 'Tremolo,' 'Harmonia Brevete SGDG,' 'Celeste C,' and' Forte Fixe F.' Three octave keyboard (F-f'') with wooden keys faced with ivory and ebony. Mahogany body with ormolu handles. In front of the keyboard and behind it is a pair of leather-edged bellows with black embossed papers. Rectangular brass reed beds screwed to action, with double riveted brass tongues. Both front and back panels drop to reveal the registers and the reed chambers.
