421.221.41 Vessel flutes with duct without fingerholes

Zoomorphic whistle, vessel flute with duct. The slipware ceramic whistle takes the form of a cuckoo-shaped bird perched on a conical base, possibly representing a tree with two branches at the sides. The cone is decorated with six irregularly shaped protrusions, perhaps representing burrs of branch stumps. The bird's tail is angled slightly downwards and has a flat end with a central slot-shaped mouth hole. The mouth or window is on the underside. The entire surface is glazed light brown, marbled with vertical dark brown streaks.
