Single membrane goblet drum with hollow, turned wooden body. The hide membrane is secured to the drum by textile string looped through holes around the base of the membrane, in turn attached to a wooden ring by vegetable fibre binding. The shoulder strap of textile rope is knotted at each end to secure it to metal hooks placed at the top and bottom of the drum.
The drum is placed across the player's left thigh and the single membrane is struck with the right hand. The opposite end is open, and different sounds can be produced by covering it with the left hand. The drum traditionally forms part of an instrumental ensemble that accompanies theatrical performances and is also used in the wayang kulit shadow puppet theatre.
