Wooden fire piston or pump for a fireman, with Japanese characters. Consists of long rectangular block of wood, which has a stepped section towarsd the middle and ending at the top with a hexagonal section into which a piston with cylindrical handle is inserted. To the side at the bottom half is a cylindrical piece attached at an angle. Reinforced with strips of metal in places. Separate wooden slab for base. Inscription in old Japanese refers to a fireman. The right column is Aichi Atsuta, a place now in Nagoya city. The left column is Yamaguchi Kyubei, the fireman's name. Top of middle column refers to a water dragon, perhaps referring to this object . 970 long x 120 w x 120 d.
