Maori still hook constructed from a crescent shaped piece of dark brown hardwood which has a slot carved in one end and a whalebone point inserted into it. This point is barbed both on the inside and outside of the curves and is lashed to the wooden shaft with a tight binding of a pale hara keke fibres. At the top of the shank the hook is attached too its line with an integrated snood of the same fibre.
