Ivory carving with silver mount, probably the hilt of a large ivory paperknife from which the blade has broken off. Ivory in the form of three monkeys, one above the other, the top one holding a mouse, which has a nut in its front paw, by its tail. A second mouse adjacent to the middle monkey, who appears to be tusslling with the other two over a persimmon in its left hand. The monkeys' fur is indicated by incisions and they are stained brown. The silver mount has raised decorative motifs in Indian style and has a wetsren hallmark. 195 long x 45 w x 25 d.
