Buddhist figure of Shotoku Taishi, one of the sons of the Emperor in the Asuka period, in a box. Wooden figure of a man with long hair, flowing robe and clogs, on a pedestal, in a rough wooden box with owner's name on the back. The left hand column is the name: ' Inoue Tokuzaemon'. The right hand column gives the date (January 21st) and period 'Ansei 2', which is the year 1855. On the outside top of the case is inscribed in pen:' Case 100 no. 211'. CMS label on one side. On the other side is a label reading 'Idol given up by Christians. C100 No. 211' 9 x 5 ½ x 3.25"
