A large rectangular textile decorated with a guinea fowl pattern. The unplyed cotton open sett ground is woven in seven, equal-sized strips and sewn together at the selvedges. The warp ends are turned and hemmed. The patterning consists of four rows of four guinea fowl, all facing one direction. The middle row are without combs and their bodies are hatched, whilst the outer ones have striped bodies. Each bird has at least one circular motif in front and behind them. The decoration is painted on using a dye of vegetable origin. The cloth was buried for a fortnight, during which time it is oxydized by chemicals in the soil to produce the near-black coloured imagery.
