saxon wheel; spinning wheel

A complete Norwegian spinning wheel (a Saxony wheel). On the right side of the level bed is the large wheel. On the opposite side is the bobbin, flyer and tension screw. The maidens, or spindle supports, and the wheel spokes are finely turned. The treadle is also more elaborately shaped than is usual. Accompanying documentation notes that it is for spinning flax. The orifice is small but there is no integral distaff.
