pipe case; pouch (containers)

Pipe case and lid made of woven plant fibre, and a leather pouch. The case is attached to the pouch by a double cord which is protected above the pouch by a small metal tubular bead, ojime, which is decorated with a motif of two sparrows and a bird-scarer in gilt with a motif showing rice plants below. The rectangular pouch is of yellowish leather, and has a flap with a decorative clasp depicting a snake over the popper. The metal plaque on the underside of the popper has Japanese characters meaning 'spring' and 'happy'. Pipe case: 193 h x 28 w x 18 d; Pouch 118 h x 66 w x 15 d.
