funerary vase

Section of a Zapotec funerary vase with a modelled 'snouted' figure, seated cross-legged, with a headdress and an elaborate necklace. There are the remains of pigment on the exterior. It would have been placed at the entrance to a tomb. The vessel has been partly reconstructed, and repair marks can be seen especially on the back.

There is a white rectangular label stuck to the back of the vase, reading: 'Put at tomb entrance A.D. 600 Zapotec Oaxaca'.
