chess piece

Set of 32 painted wooden chessmen, pink and white. The set consists of two kings, the largest of the pieces, the white king with short trousers and a tall central dome in his headdress which has a back wing, the pink king also with short trousers and with a back wing containing a face. The queens are smaller, skirted. All the other pieces wear short trousers. There are two pink princes and two white princes, with white with crown and back wing, the pink with back wing only. These are presumably what we call bishops. Two pink and two white pieces with horse heads are presumably knights. Two pink and two pieces with elephant heads are presumably rooks or castles. Eight white pawns and eight pink. The heads are similar in style to wayang golek but the lower parts are not, having short black trousers and in the case of the queens, plain undecorated slightly flared skirts rather than sarung.
One old label with object with yellow background and black type.
