manuscript

One of three handwritten gilt manuscript pages from Shalu Monastery, Tibet. The page is written in Tibetan script in gold ink on a blue background; the rest of the parchment has been stained blue.

This folio is one of three (the other two being 2014.160 and 2014.162). However the three folios are separate and not sequential. They could be from the same volume but most likely from different sections of mantras. The mantra is written in gold ink on black / dark blue paper or 'Mthing-shog' in Tibetan. Typically important mantra are written in gold ink on Mthing-shog paper. The mantra on the folio roughly translates as follows: Lines 1 and 2. May it get pacified; may it get fully pacified. My enemies and unwanted obstacles and all untoward negativities get pacified. By the power of Kurukulle [ku ru ku le, a female buddhist deity associated with kuvera, goddess of might and power, also known as rig byed ma] Lines 3 and 4: May all the 80,000 class of obstacles get pacified; may one be free from harmful and negative causes of mishaps; and( instead) may all positive and facilitative conditions be created for abundance and munificence .
