Hawkes & Son Clippertone cornet, serial no 24674. Silver-plated. Three top-sprung Perinet valves with domed touches and chimneyed lower caps. Detachable mouthpiece receiver/lead pipe. Rear-facing main tuning slide. Music holder socket on htird valve loop. Distinctive curved stay links bottom of second valve casing to lower yard. Stamped on bell: 'The/Clippertone/EXCELSIOR SONOROUS/CLASS A/HAWKES & Son/Denman Street/Piccadilly Circus/LONDON'. Floral engraving along top of bell stem and around bell. Upper valve casings stamped 4, 5, 6. Second valve casing stamped midway down: 'HAWKES & SON/LONDON/7'. Serial number stamped near rim on underside of bell. With a mouthpiece of silver-plated brass (most plating has come away) with wide, flat lip.
