211.212.1 Individual double-skin cylindrical drums

Dohol, cylindrical double membrane drum with beater. One head of the drum is donkey skin, the other goat skin. The wooden shell is formed of a single length of wood reinforced at the joint. The skin heads are tensioned over hoops and nailed to the wooden shell. The string bracing is in a V-shaped pattern. There is a leather carrying strap. The beater is formed from a curved stick fixed into a handle of turned and varnished wood. Photos showing a similar dohol in performance, together with a karna oboe similar to 2012.155, were taken by the collector, Alec MacLeod, and are described in MIMSY record number ARC/HMG/CM/007/A/MCLEODALEC.
