Headscarf (samija). Part of woman’s costume from Tetovo, near Skopje, Macedonia. Square of fine white gauze trimmed along two sides and roughly a quarter of the remaining sides with lace, gold-coloured metal thread ric rac and at the outer edge bunches of tiny glass beads in groups of repeating colours: red, blue, black, green. Where there is trim, the edge has been reinforced with blanket stitch in pink thread, the remaining undecorated sides rolled and hemmed in white thread.
