Apron. Part of woman’s costume from Tetovo, near Skopje, Macedonia. Rectangular handwoven woollen apron divided into two design areas, the upper part with horizontal bands of cream crossed by alternating bands of green and blue, each containing metal thread. Between these bands is further patterning in bands of pink yarn. The lower part of the apron is of plain weft-faced stripes of deep blue, russet, pink and green in a regularly repeating pattern. The apron is secured with a cord of plaited wool in the same colours as the lower part of the apron, stitched to either side at the top, which is hemmed.
