Doll mounted on a wooden rectangle. Wearing a black skirt with a red and white checked blouse and white apron. Covered by a black cloak. Has painted facial features. Attached label reads “Collectors Character Doll Handmade by “Jay” of Dublin” and inside reads “West Cork woman. The Cloak is the traditional outer garment of the West Cork and Kinsale woman, and was treasured by her. Up to about 1820 or 1830 the cloaks were made from a heavy freize material, but later a lighter quality broadcloth was used. The married woman wore a mop cap under her hood. Hand-made in Ireland”.
