belt (general & multipurpose)

Close warp-faced plain weave, striped in red, white, red, white, red, with narrow black lines between each colour. Just over one third of the length is covered with weft-faced brocading with a diamond type pattern made up of little blocks of colour resembling tapestry weave. The ends of the belt taper to 2 - 3 cm wide, finishing with loose warp ends. For picture: see cover of Textiles and Weaving Structures by Peter Collingwood.
