Two 4-selvedge panels are sewn together down the centre leaving a gap for the head. The sides are left open. The ground colour is black, but this is almost entirely obscured with the rows of different single-faced brocading in many colours. The brocading technique changes on the shoulders where a design of parrots, copied from European embroidery books, is cleverly rendered into double-faced brocade (similar to tapestry). The weavers of San Antonio Aguas Calientes are generally thought to be the most skilled weavers in the count.
