Man's songket skirt, sarung, of purple silk with weft ikat designs forming horizontal interlocking bays of lozenges in orange and red against a purple ground. The lozenges are further decorated with metal thread supplementary weft echoing the outlines of the bays and also forming diamond motifs at the centre of each bay. Border to top and bottom of skirt in supplementary metal thread with zigzag design. The skirt is formed of a length of cloth sewn along the two weft ends to form a tube.
Sarungs are unusual in Bali, where traditional dress would be a wrapped unsewn cloth. Probably originally from Karangasem area, which came under cultural influence from Lombok.
