Breast cloth, anteng, woven from commercially spun cotton dyed with artificial dyestuffs. The base fabric is maroon, with a pattern in supplementary weft which includes a border along the selvedges of triple stripes containing a lozenge pattern and in an inner border of scallop shapes with trefoils projecting into the main field, all in yellow. At each shorter end two wider border design stripes in yellow and white containing a row of triangles pointing alternately inwards and outwards, each in one colour, either blue, white, orange, pale or dark green, or yellow. The main centrefield is divided into sections by horizontal lines in the weft combined with zig zags also achieved by supplementary weft but running warp-wise, which surround evenly spaced identical motifs in half drop repeats, each in a different colour as in the border. Between this main field and the selvedge border on each side is a row of smaller discrete motifs in the same colour range. Machine hemmed at shorter ends. Some soiling. Bali, Indonesia. (AF29)
