Alto clarinet in E flat. Lacquered boxwood with nickel silver-plated plaque, crook, ferrules, ligature and keywork. Keys have leather pads. Simple system fingering with F-sharp rings on upper joint. Five pieces including mouthpiece. Double curved crook. Bell points downwards. Ebonite sections at the top of the upper and lower joints are later additions, possibly to lower the pitch of the instrument. Mouthpiece stamped: S.QUILTER/LONDON; with a flower emblem above.
