Natural horn, cor de chasse, trompe de chasse in D, yellow brass. Three times coiled. Short conical mouthpiece presumed original. Remains of black paint inside the bell. Much denting. Stamped: 'Duchene 70 Pasge Du Saumon Paris'.

The cor de chasse was used by hunters on horseback to communicate the stages and events of the hunt to riders spread out over a large distance. The bell interior of the cor de chasse was often coated with flat black or red paint so that the sun did not reflect off of the inside of the bell and frighten the horses.
