Clarinet in A flat. Body of Brya ebenus (cocuswood), varnished. Nickel silver-plated keywork and ferrules. Keys are pillar mounted with circular slightly domed cups and fish skin pads. Simple system fingering. Brille key on side. Body joint and bell only, barrel and mouthpiece are missing. String lapped tenons. Body joint stamped: RUDALL/ROSE CARTE & Co./20 CHARING CROSS/LONDON/3411; Bell stamped: RUDALL/ROSE CARTE & Co./LONDON; A crown emblem appears above each inscription.

The sopranino clarinet in this pitch has a history of use in larger military bands on the continent but has rarely been used in the UK. This instrument was made to a special commission for a music hall artist.
