421.121.12 Open side-blown flutes with fingerholes

Transverse flute. Left-handed model originally with five keys, one of which is missing. African blackwood (grenadilla) body with nickel silver-plated keys and ferrules. Keys are block mounted with saltspoon cups and leather pads. Four joints. String lapped tenons. Head joint is open and has integrated barrel. All joints stamped: G. FRENCH/LONDON; A crown emblem appears above the inscriptions on the top three joints.
