mask (dance & live theatre)

Wooden mask, of the type used in the 'Dance of the Seven Sins'. This one is unpainted, to show a stage in the manufacture of this type of mask. The mask is carved in the form of a human face. The face is decorated with carved wooden lizard-like creatures. Attached to the chin of the face is another skull-like face that has horns and ears attached. The top of the mask is decorated with a bird-like creature with snakes attached either side. The whole of the mask is carved out of the same piece of wood. The wood is not painted, and is probably stained with a dark wood stain.
