Jamila (a character)

Glove puppet with a short central rld. Puppet is of a well-known character, Jamila.

The puppet is of a young woman with slanting eyes, blue upper eyelids, black eyebrows, a red rosebud mouth, a yellow complexion, and long, black hair in six braids. She is dressed in a low black hat (DOPPE) and a faux-ikat dress with long sleeves. Her hands are made from pink padded cloth.

Puppet is one of two puppets (other is 2001.206.1) in a bag (2001.206.3).

Puppet was bought from Master Matyakub's shop near the Ark in Khiva.
