Whetstone (Bedamuni: hai tebeesu, tiaase). A stone used for sharpening stone adzes and (recently) iron axes and knives. The stone is scratched with a hard implement over a piece of kesoma gadofo, the bark of the kesoma tree (Parastemon versteeghii, 1982.82). The fine sand-like scrapings serve then as sandpaper for the adze. When sharpening iron axes, the stone is used directly on the metal. The side where the stone is used shows orange and white. This example was bought from Awane.
