waist ornament

Waist ornament. Cowhide tail with aluminium strips pressed around it - divided into 3 at the end with 3 brass bullets at the end. Made by women for their daughters - the aluminium is from sufurias and the bullets picked up from a military camp site in the Lowlands. Worn by girl aged 12 to circumcision then passed to younger sisters. worn all the time hunging down on the back outside skirt. Attached to strip of cowhide or goatskin around waist - or if her boyfriend has given her them, string of beads around her waist that no-one but her boyfriend should see (my interpreter Fenno Jacob is still trying to obtain these for me).
