Surśrngār (sursrngar, sur sringara), lute. The back made of a gourd segment, broken and in many pieces, but revealing the internal construction showing the tenon extending from the neck to which the back is attached with dowel pins. The table and neck of red-brown wood, possibly tun wood (Cedrela toona). The table with an inlaid border of white triangles with red and green spots on a black ground. The neck is carved with a thick wooden collar at the distal end, and it tapers towards the pegbox. A worn metal plate is attached to the flat surface of the neck with screws. The pegbox is carved with a leaf design, similar to the carved leaves projecting over the top of the gourd back, and has holes for six pegs (two pegs missing, two broken). The pegbox is surmounted by a carved feline head. A small gourd resonator is attached to the base of the pegbox.
