Dao holder made of wood. Rectangular piece of wood, with one side cut away to form an open recess bounded by narrow strip of wood on long sides and base. The top sides of the recess are decorated with a series of incised `V’ shapes across a central line, with concentric circles at each corner, and half way up on one side; the opposite side has been cut away at this point. At the base of the recess, the top side is decorated with a series of `V’ patterns forming a set of zig-zags, around vertical lines. The flat side of the recess is decorated with four Dakota aeroplane silhouettes burnt on, two rows of two each. The recess has two rigid thin metal bars through holes pierced on each side to hold in the dao blade. The sides of the recess show traces of wear as though by a blade. The back of the dao holder is cut away in the centre, with the sides pierced, as though for wearing on a strap. A white paper disc inscribed `36’ was removed from the object in 2009.
