adire; textile

Rectangular tabby-woven cotton ('adire') with painted resist decoration in light blue on an indigo ground. The textile has been sewn together along the selvedge of two narrow pieces. The shorter sides have been hemmed. The decoration divides the textile into 56 rectangles using sets of four narrow bands and three stripes. Each contains geometric patterns or floral and animal motifs. The patterns within the squares of any band repeat on each half. On the reverse of one of the hems is what appears to be a maker's mark.
