Smock. Cut out from straight pieces of material after the typical shape of the old Romanian peasant smock. Geometrical decorative design embroidered around the neck, breast, sleeves and to a lesser degree at the back and round the hem. The most varied decorative designs are to be found on the sleeve, according to a specific rule applied to this type of smock: the “altita”, a piece of embroidery at the shoulder, is composed of several compactly embroidered rows of the same model; the “incret” (puckers) coming below, worked in white, is embroidered with a special technique on the back of the material, the rest of the sleeve, called “pe brat” (along the arm), is ornamented with small, uniform and symmetrically arranged designs, representing one of the usual models for these kind of smocks. The small and fine embroidery is typical of that area. The narrow band at the neck supports the puckers formed by the smock. The predominating colour of the embroidery is violet. (Factory-made cotton, natural silk (“borangic”). Vegetable dyes for the silk. Length of back 1230mm, length of sleeves 570mm.
