picnic hamper (hamper (food processing & storage))

The lower part of a picnic basket, made of wicker covered in black gum and lacquered. The base is round, and the sides have small panels of wickerwork which are painted gold. Flowers and symbols are also painted on the sides in gold. This part has a long handle passing over the other parts of the hamper and holds them in position. On each side of the handle near the top is a vertical slit in a metal plaque, through which a wooden bar may have slotted, to keep the lid to the top layer in place. The top of the handle itself has a metal carrying handle on it. The bottom tray may carry a pottery heating apparatus to keep the food in the other two trays hot.
