jar (food processing & storage)

Storage jar of globular form with lower half of the body tapering to a small flat base. It has a short neck, small flaring mouth and two loop handles attached below the widest part of the body. The clay body is orange earthenware. The jar is decorated with red and brown slip. Around the exterior upper body are two roundels embellished with horizontal lines and dots, two groups of zig-zag patterns that resemble abstract frog motifs, bordered with bands of rings and an undulating line at the bottom. The neck has a band of cross-hatched lines. Around the mouth rim are four sets of triple lines. Painted jars of this type were found at burial and dwelling sites.
