The horn has had a lengthy association with the hunt, where a series of calls were used to communicate the events of the mounted hunt to its widely scattered participants. Music for multiple horns would often be featured as an entertainment after the hunt. Trompe de chasse groups are active throughout France and Belgium. They have a prescribed repertoire of hunting calls and compete in contests in much the same way as brass bands do in Britain. A parallel tradition of jagdhorn playing exists in Germany and Austria.
