Teapot from Hainan province, of bulbous form with the body made of carved coconut shell and lined with pewter. The base with three short legs, spout, handle and lid are also made of pewter. The outside of the body is decorated with a main register with carved diaper ground and two large lobed panels enclosing a 'shou' (longevity) character at the centre, flanked by dragon heads and lingzhi fungus. The scrolling overhead handle is detached but present. The pewter lid is surmouted with a round knob of carved wood or coconut shell.
